Hair by Kelly Academy
The colour, explained.
A colour education built on theory, formulation and correction — taught in the salon where the work happens.
Technique meets intention
More than a formula.
A way of seeing.
The Academy is built around Kelly’s colour experience at Hair by Kelly, where balayage, blonding and correction are part of the everyday book. The programme rests on four foundations that make colour repeatable: theory, the science behind it, the craft of lightening, and the judgement to correct.
Programme preview: dates, fees, class size, kits and certification are not yet confirmed. Contact Kelly for current availability.
The four foundations
Colour, built
in the right order.
Each area can be studied on its own or as a complete programme. The final curriculum, order and format will be confirmed by Kelly.
01
Color Theory
Colour begins as a decision, not a formula. Learn to see depth, tone and undertone before a tube is opened.
- The colour wheel, complementary pairs and neutralisation
- Depth versus tone: reading levels and choosing a target
- Warm, cool and neutral direction for a client’s skin and eye tone
- Formulating a predictable result and mixing a consistent line
- The language to use in a consultation so expectations match the outcome
02
The Science Behind Hair Colour
Every formula is a reaction. Understand the hair underneath so the result holds and the fibre stays strong.
- Hair structure, porosity and how it changes with history
- How developer, alkalinity and pigment work together
- Lift and deposit: what each product can and cannot do
- Resistant, grey and previously coloured hair
- Patch testing, strand testing and sectioning discipline
03
Blonding & Lightening
Creating light with control — from the first weave to the blend that makes it look natural.
- Foiling, weaving and sectioning for placement and dimension
- Freehand, backcombed and baby-light approaches
- Root shadow, mid-lengths and ends: softening the grow-out
- Tonal neutralisation and keeping blonde bright between visits
- Protecting integrity while lifting, and planning maintenance
04
Color Correction
The work that separates a colourist from an applicator: solving what has already been done.
- Reading the hair and building a colour-history timeline
- Colour removal, filler and rebuilding a missing base
- Bandings, brassiness and uneven previous lightening
- Phasing a correction over multiple appointments
- Quoting time and cost honestly, and caring for the client through it
